Thought I'd share something new I'm starting with Micah. He loves music. Seriously, LOVES music! (Those of you who know him personally are probably giggling right now.) We listen to lot's of contemporary Christian music, but I want to introduce him to some older hymns and spirituals, too. They are so full of rich, deep truths that are well-worth our reflection!! So, join us Mondays for our Monday's Call To Worship to see which hymn we'll be contemplating through the week! We'd love to hear what some of your favorite hymns, as well!!
"The Love of God"
Frederick M. Lehman, 1917
Main subject: Love
Scripture: John 3:16; Romans 8:38-39
The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.
Refrain:
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
When hoary time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

I will be tuning in...love this one...just think...were every stalk on earth a quill and every man a scribe...it would not be enough to write the love of God.
That is really great!
we are also beginning a similiar thing at our house. The HSBC bookstore has a book that leads you through teaching your kiddos the hymns. One of my friends does this with their children. I am excited about it.
