Do you know what He is doing?

As promised, I'm continuing my thoughts from my previous post...thank you for sharing your wisdom/experiences via comments...very affirming!!

In my last post, while contemplating our (the Martin family's) worldly pursuits, I referenced Jesus' comments describing the servant-master relationship. But I just have to share the following verse to complete my train of thinking:

No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.-- Jesus

Applying that to our housing situation, I've had to ask myself, "Do I know what He (God the Father) is doing?" Do I know what He's doing in the lives of the people in the neighborhood where we reside -- Have I prayed about what He's doing in one of the several neighborhoods we could relocate to? Has what He's doing even been a consideration in our decision-making process? Actually, not just a consideration, but the priority. Especially since Scripture say I'm not simply a servant, but a servant in the know...a friend...

Not to mention, what we're teaching our son through our decisions...I know, he's young now, but he's a direct recipient of the results that come from choosing to serve God...or, serve self.

...it's been refreshing to pray about what God is doing, instead of what we're doing!

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Alisa, thanks for your post today. I totally agree with your train of thought and appreciate you posting it because it is good for all of us to realign our decisions with those that our Father would want for us. We have had to deal with the consequences of not asking him before making decisions in the past, and it is not fun, nor is it easy. God's blessings on your decision!

Such a fresh and new prespective for me! Thanks Alisa - I love how your mind thinks and reasons through scripture :) Among blogs, I would say I love to read yours! We don't get to read many these days - thanks for the last two posts!

Marc Driscoll has a unique saying "Don't make God your pinata". I believe he had a recent sermon on it - haven't listened but my dad said it was great!

Thanks for this. We are trying to sell our house and this post helped me to get the right perspective on asking what God has in mind. I do find peace in a verse from Acts 17 that says "He determined the time set for them (mankind) and the EXACT place where they should live."

I have enjoyed stopping by your blog. I found you from The Pilgreens. We attended her father's church years ago. We took pictures at their wedding. We have a SN daughter from China. She has been home almost 1 year. She is our 6 child. We don't update our blog very often, but you can read all about our trip to China. We also live in AL now like you. We are moving further south to Baldwin County next week.
I will be praying for you and your family. Your little boy is amazing. Have you met any of the Lifeline families in B'ham?
Blessings,
Christine

I've enjoyed reading your thoughts!! It is so easy to get sucked into the American Way, isn't it?? I always have to pause and say... "oh, wait a minute, it's not about me!!" Thanks for your honesty and cheering you on as you continue to seek HIS will!
Love,
Shari

Hey girl. You have no idea how timely this thought has been for me. I have been "chewing" on it for days. Thank you for being so faithful in sharing what you think. See you soon.
